MABE LADIES CHOIR
Formed in 1931, the Mabe Ladies Choir has long been regarded as one of the premier ladies choral groups in Cornwall. With 50 members, the Choir is in great demand for concerts throughout Cornwall and, over the years, has helped raise many thousands of pounds for charity.
Competing at musical festivals is an important part of the annual programme of events. This helps maintain the high standard of performance for which the Choir is renowned. Successes include Cornish Champions on numerous occasions, top awards at Blackpool, Bournemouth, Exeter and Cheltenham, including the prestigious Gold Cup.
Past events of note include performing with the late Sir Harry Secombe during a concert tour of Cornwall and appearing on BBC Television World Service in Songs of Praise. The Choir can frequently be heard on local radio and have recorded several CD’s. See the ‘News’ page for details and availability
To ensure that the varying musical tastes of concert audiences are catered for, the MD prepares
programmes which include old favourites, songs from the shows and arrangements of works by modern composers. These include items specifically written for the Choir. With MD Amanda Ward and accompanist Rico Gerber as the technical team, the Choir can look forward to many exciting and successful times ahead.
Rehearsal takes place on Wednesdays at Penryn Methodist Chapel. New members are always welcome and anyone interested in joining should contact the MD or Secretary. Details can be seen on the ‘Contacts’ page.
